Release date:1/28/2009
Kampala, Uganda: MTN today recognized outstanding business performance by their leading dealers in an awards ceremony held at the Nile Resort Hotel, Jinja. Dealers received awards for outstanding delivery in their businesses, exhibiting productive partnerships that have significantly contributed to overall growth and market leadership of the MTN brand.
The telecom giant said the event was held to recognize the tireless efforts of its business partners in not only promoting the brand as a market leader but also sustaining it at the pinnacle of the telecom business.
“This has grown into an annual and highly anticipated event for our dealers designed to encourage good performance, recognize excellence, and stimulate competition. The support received from these very important partners is highly valued by us at MTN and it’s only fitting that we recognize them” said Collin Muyanja, MTN’s Head of Channels and Distribution.
He said the winning dealers had displayed high levels of professionalism, dedication and commitment to customer services and also through understanding of the MTN brand and business philosophy. They achieved revenue and acquisition targets, invested heavily in their businesses and ensured that their staff were adequately incentivized and motivated.
“Last year proved to be quite a competitive year and our large distribution footprint covered by the dealers proved instrumental in keeping MTN at the forefront of the industry” added Muyanja.
2008’s recognition awards went to Dembelyo that is run by Musisi Matthias and which covers Mukono, Kayunga and Kiboga districts as the Dealer of the Year. He was followed by C & A Limited owned and run by Andrew Ntegeka who took the first runner – up position and Cellular Services owned & run by Timothy Sabiiti who emerged second runner up.
The dinner was also an opportunity for the MTN Dealers to say thank you and good bye to Erik van Veen, the outgoing Chief Commercial Officer of MTN who will leave the country in a few days. Van Veen has been at the helm of MTN, working closely with the dealers to establish one of the largest channels distribution footprints in the country, and has seen the company grow from its early days back in 1998 when it first entered the market as well as helping nurture it to the top as the undisputed market leader.
