MTN Foundation uses UGX 235 Million to rehabilitate Gulu School

Gulu, Uganda: Over 1000 Pupils of Gulu Prison Primary School will now have classes in a new a safe environment after MTN Foundation gave over UGX 235 million to renovate the previously dilapidated structures.  
 
The refurbished buildings were handed over to the school authorities by members of the MTN Foundation Board led by its chairman, George William Eggadu and MTN CEO Noel Meier. 
 
Speaking during the occasion MTN CEO Noel Meier said that the Foundation greatly valued the role that education played in equipping children from all walks of life with the necessary knowledge and skills to become responsible citizens and future leaders.
 
“We at MTN realize that education is an integral component of any community that seeks to develop right from the grassroots level,” he said. Adding, “That is why we are gathered here today to witness the continuation of this school’s journey that began in 1986” 
 
The chairman board of trustees MTN Foundation George William Egaddu, reiterated the company’s commitment to its CSR obligations and also revealed that the foundation’s needs-guided procedure used to select the projects to support.
 
“At MTN we believe that the best inheritance that parents can give their children is education. It is education that has enabled us to be here today as a company or local leaders and it is education that will enable these children to support coming generations in a similar manner,” said Eggadu.
 
The foundation chairman further added that, “Indeed education is key pillar of MTN Foundation’s areas of intervention and it is for this reason that we identified this school.”
 
The decision to support Gulu Prisons Primary School was also reached in collaboration with Gulu Support the Children Organization, which helped identify a school with special needs children who had never been assisted by any develop partner.
 
The project comprised of renovating the main building, toilets and ensuring the school received piped water.
