Tips and Tricks on how to activate MTN Mobile Internet, how to manage your account and how to save.

How do I set up my phone for MTN Internet access?

You will need MTN Internet settings on your phone.

Automatically
•    Simply send a BLANK SMS to short code 188.
•    Accept/save the settings that you receive.
•    For some phones, you will be prompted to save the settings as Default, press Yes/Ok.

Manual Configuration
You might need to enter the settings manually on some devices. To setup the phone manually, insert the details below;

Profile Name:  MTN
APN (Access Point Name): yellopix.mtn.co.ug
Proxy: 10.120.0.138
Port: 8080
Username: **Leave this Blank**
Password: **Leave this Blank**

Where do I find APN settings on my phone?

Android and Blackberry 10
Location may vary by manufacturer and Android version, however the APN settings are generally found in:
Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

iPhone
Location will vary by iOS version:
•    iOS 5,6: Settings > General > Network > Mobile Data Network
•    iOS 7: Settings > Mobile > Mobile Data Network

Windows phone
Location may vary by version, however the APN settings are generally found in one of two locations:
Settings > Access Point > Settings > Mobile Network

How do I activate an MTN Internet bundle?

Dial *150*1# and access any of the following service.
•    Buy a bundle for your number
•    Buy a bundle for another number
•    Check your internet bundle balance
•    Activate per kb charging if your bundle has run out by selecting ‘Use Airtime Account’.

Why do my Internet bundles run out so fast?

Many phones will show you how much data each app has used, but you can also install third party applications such as my data manager, mobile data watch dog.

These apps will help you identify how your data is being consumed.

Android
•    Go to Settings > Connections > Data Usage > Select Data Usage Cycle, you will view the total amount of data bundle used within the selected period as measured by your device
•    Scroll down the screen to see a list of apps and their data usage info. Touch an app to see the Foreground and Background bundle usage. Background data is initiated by the app without your knowledge. You can select restrict background data to disable that app from synchronizing in the background.

iPhone
•    iOS 5,6: Settings > General > Usage > Mobile Usage, view your device’s data usage below Mobile Network Data
•    iOS 7: Settings > Mobile, your device’s data usage is displayed below Mobile Data Usage.
How can I ensure that I don’t exceed my Internet bundle?
Select Limit mobile data usage to automatically disable your data connection when you reach the set limit. Then, drag the upper limit line to set your monthly data limit.

How do I stop apps and updates from running in the background?

This will vary depending on the type of phone you are using.

Android

•    Open Google Play
•    Tap the menu button (three horizontal lines) located at the top left hand side of the screen and choose settings
•    Tap Auto-update apps and choose do not auto-update apps.

iPhone
•    Open Settings and choose iTunes & App Store
•    Go to Automatic Downloads then Updates
•    Toggle to switch automatic updates on or off.

Windows Phone

•    Open the Windows Store
•    Swipe in from the right of the screen, or the menu button (three square dots) located in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and choose Settings
•    Under App updates, turn Update apps automatically off.

How do I disable my Internet connection when not using my phone?

Android and Blackberry 10
Procedure may vary by manufacturer and OS version, however the Internet connection can generally be disabled by going to:
Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Press Mobile data to deactivate Internet connection.

iPhone
Procedure will vary by iOS version:
•    iOS 5,6: Settings > General  > Network > Press the indicator next to Mobile Data to deactivate Internet connection
•    iOS 7: Settings > Mobile > Press the indicator next to Mobile Data to deactivate Internet connection.

Windows
Procedure may vary by version, however the Internet connection can generally be disabled by going to: Settings > Mobile Network > Press the field below Data connection > Press off to deactivate Internet connection.
